Prince Louis Ferdinand, a prince and soldier killed on the battlefield in 1806, was surrounded by myths for a whole century. His compositions, renowned at the time, were gradually forgotten over the years and only rediscovered through a performance of his F-minor quartet by Richard Strauss in October 1906. It is assumed that the work of Louis Ferdinand included many compositions more, but only those that were handed down to us in print survived.
This CD box-set presents the first complete edition of all known original compositions by Louis Ferdinand. The enclosed booklet shares insights into the original sound world and tonal language of this composer, who was so important for the development of romantic music. We are pleased to present to you the Prince's complete works on 5 CDs.
